I wish for a
world filled with hope, peace, and "real" understanding and respect
for all peoples of whatever colour they may be. A end to war, so no
more young men and women will die beforethey have a chance to see
the dawn of the year 3000. To see a reaching out to the stars by a
"united" world with the goal to explore beyound our tiny planet that
rests in a great sea of stars. To 2000, the year of universal peace
and hope for humanity. |

I send a prayer
to all who reach this wonderful web site that they might find peace
in their own hearts. Starting there, peace can only spread like a
ripple through a still pond to all those near and far to lead toward
a world at peace. The best formula for attaining this personal peace
that I have found is located in Philippians 4:6-7. "Be careful for
nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace
of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus." In His love at the dawn of the third
millennium in the year of our Lord, 2000 A.D.

stands at the threshold of the third millenium, it is my hope that
all the people of the world will take time to consider our mutual
destiny. Where are we going... and how will we get there? Will we
destroy our planet through greed and hubris? Will we fight great
wars and use weapons of mass destruction in the name of ideology or
nationalism? The third Mellinium will see human civilization succeed
or fail. I believe the road to human savation lies through hope,
love, and appreciation of beauty. We are alive - and we can
act. |

The San Diego
half of our "twinned" cities is pleased to take this moment to pause
and reflect upon how our association has achieved the mission of
peace that Dwight Eisenhower bestowed upon all sister cities after
the ravages of World War II.
Through our Society's 22 years of cultural, social and
educational programs and exchanges, we have come to better
understand and benefit from our differences and similarities. We
have formed friendships and developed a high admiration for the
achievements of each city's citizens.
War is no stranger to our two cities. Edinburgh was designed as a
fortress, and San Diego became a military base. But, at the advent
of this new millennium, it is fitting that we rededicate ourselves
to setting an example by maintaining a high standard of programs
which will further unite San Diego and Edinburgh. In this small way
we will contribute to the pursuit of peace for all
mankind. |

Manifesto 2000
Peace in our hands! The General Assembly of the United Nations has
proclaimed the year 2000 the "International Year for the Culture of
Peace." I invite everyone, everywhere to join the international
movement to create the culture of peace and nonviolence:
- Because the year 2000 must be a new beginning, an opportunity
to transform all together the culture of war and violence into a
culture of peace and violence.
- Because this transformation demands the participation of each
and every one of us, and must offer young people and future
generations the values that can inspire them to shape a world
based on justice, solidarity, liberty, dignity, harmony, and
prosperity for all.
- Because the culture of peace can underpin sustainable
development, environmental protection and the well-being of each
person.
- Because I am aware of my share of responsibility for the
future of humanity, in particular the children of today and
tommorow.
To join this peace manifesto, all you have to do is make a
promise. "I pledge in my daily life, in my family, my work, my
community, my country, and my region, to:
- Respect all life
- Reject violence
- Share with others
- Listen to understand
- Preserve the planet
- Rediscover solidarity."
